As of now, I’m reading several series at once. In the parentheses next to the series’ title is the next volume of which I will be reading. Here are they:
Negima!: Magister Negi Magi(volume 16) – Ken Akamatsu is one of my favorite manga-kas. While Lova Hina was good until it become redundant (around the end, fortunately), Negima has never disappointed. My absolute favorite would be volume 14: Negi-sensei is going to see Ako Izumi-sama’s concert, disguised as Nagi (Nagi is Negi-sensei, but older). I love this volume because of “Nagi’s” perfection: not only did he present himself as a perfect gentleman, he surprised me as well. I mean, what a surprise! You’ll have to read it yourself to see what I mean.
Princess Resurrection (volume 4) – there are two reasons why I’m reading this: 1) Princess, whose name is “Hime,” is insanely cute; and 2) it way of presenting itself is interesting and like-able. The best way to describe this would be: it’s kinda like the first season of Big O. Each chapter, there’s some problem and none of them seem connected to each other. It’s sort of like “each day, a new adventure.” A series that appears to have a non-linear plot, but also has a linear, main plot tucked away somewhere that’ll eventually leap out. So far, I’ve established that Princess Hime will eventually have to fight her siblings (I’m assuming this – not sure if this war for the throne is a last man standing deal (she doesn’t care for the throne, by the way)) and Hiro, the lead male, will have to help her. I’ve also established that Princess Hime cares for Hiro, though I doubt seeing those two together: they don’t look like a “pair.” In real life, I wouldn’t care, but… you know. Also, I’m not going to bother watching the anime: from what I’ve read, it’s too seinen for me (I like the concept of a human licking Hime-sama’s million dollar fingers… I wonder if she’s killed someone for… being too… horny?).
Shugo Chara! (volume 2) – Right, uh… a strange one. Imagine a loli-gothic manga combined with a shoujo manga. What you have left is: cute girls and feminine boys who look like girls (hence why they’re feminine, I guess). I have no idea as to what the deal is with the “eggs,” though I must say… I had no idea that the loli-gothic fetish was so sensible. I will see where this goes, though I am a bit nervous (skeptical is too strong).
School Rumble (volume 6) – a funny manga. Not the funniest, because there’s another unlikely contender for that position. It did have a rough start: the story was established, but then it spiraled into naught story. Then, in volume 2, I finally figured out what the story was: not only is it about Tsukamoto vying for her love, but also Harima Kenji. I say this because Harima gets into the most trouble trying to get Tsukamoto’s attention, thus leading him to be the one to have the most pages. I mean, a bunch of what I read is about Harima, so if the story isn’t about him, then who is about…? I don’t know. All I know is, each book is about a certain character (Harima is always involved in one way or another) and I love it.
Genshiken (volume 6) – remember when I mentioned that unlikely contender for the funniest manga? Well… here it is. I laughed the hardest when I read Genshiken 5 than any other manga. Saki-san’s reaction to Kousaka-sama’s cosplay was classic. Silent humor (body language) is more funny than any other joke.
Rosario + Vampire (volume 2) – if you have watched the anime, then quickly move over to this. The anime is stupid. It’s childish and doesn’t set the right atmosphere (I felt like I was watching Yu-Gi-Oh! or something. Yu-Gi-Oh! is awesome, though). Ignoring my biased statement, I was shocked at Rosario + Vampire: I didn’t notice any pantsu shots. Well, the only one I did notice was at the end. That’s a sum of one (and trust me: I NOTICE pantsu shots. I hunt for them, though I can miss them like any hunter). There are a couple chapters they didn’t put in the anime: the chapter about the mermaids, and the chapter about the werewolf (I think they put the werewolf one in… I forget). The girls may not be as cute, but Rosario + Vampire is one series where I’d make an exception (one of my requirements is cute girls. And, because of the anime’s superior girls, I’ve come to the conclusion that there are bad writers out there).
There is one more series: Kieli. It’s rather interesting, though I doubt that you want to keep reading. I mean, if you like horror mangas, then go and get it. It won’t freak you out like Robot Chicken does, but you won’t be disappointed.
Man, I had no idea that Japanese drama shows were so interesting. If you don’t live in the States, here’s why I adore Japanese dramas over the dramas over here in the States: they’re too dramatic (should this be considered an irony?) or the acting is rubbish. There exist exceptions, of course.
The story is basically this: Tachibana Ayaka is trying to be the best hostess in Osaka (Or, is it Japan?). She, of course, earns some rivals, one of which is Reiko. What got me hooked is that Reiko is a real bitch. Not only does she play dirty, she’s evil. Like, really evil. Very competitive. So competitive to the point that she started stealing Tachibana-san’s customers by sleeping with them. You might say “That’s not that evil.” Well… that’s true. It may not sound evil, but it is evil nonetheless. I think it’s nasty, really (NO PUNS, THNX).
If you live in Hawai’i and have Oceanic, then the channel is 9 (cable, not sure about digital) and the time is 9:00-10:00pm on Sunday. Not sure what you can do if you live elsewhere… don’t go look for torrents, please.
